Aliquippa has declared a State of Emergency after three “major” water main breaks on Monday.
The City of Aliquippa posted on social media that 22,000 residents are impacted by the breaks.
City officials say that crews are trying to isolate the main break that is underneath Route 51.
If they are unable to successfully back feed water into the system, Route 51 will need to shut down in the area of the break.
That could cause “significant traffic disruptions and extend repair time.”
Repairs are expected to take one or two days but could be up to three, depending on the seriousness of the breaks.
Residents are asked to conserve water, check on older neighbors and those with medical needs, and to stay alert for updates.
Bottled water and water buffaloes are being brought in for residents.
