There are progressives who think Zappala hasn't done enough to reform bail, probation and the criminal justice system.
On the Big K Morning Show, KDKA-TV's Jon Delano said those progressives have a candidate in mind.
“The public defender Matt Dugan is expected to announce in mid-to-late January that he is running,” said Delano
In his announcement, Zapala said "we're facing a political agenda... for racial and class division." He says it empowers criminals.
