Allegheny County Councilmembers select Michelle Naccarati-Chapkis as its new president after Pat Catena resigned last week.

Catena resigned after fallout from a controversial flier in his failed state house bid.

Naccarati-Chapkis was elected to council in 2021 and is a graduate of Woodland Hills High school and the University of Pittsburgh.

Hers was the only nomination submitted by Councilmembers.

After her election, she thanked each of her predecessors, noting each was a man.

“That is not a criticism, it is simply the history and today, we are adding a new chapter to it,” said Naccarati-Chapkis. “I am proud to accept this role as the first woman as President of Allegheny County Council.”

She says there's real work ahead, including a balanced budget, a potential reassessment and infrastructure upgrades.

Naccarati-Chapkis is a resident of Plum Borough and represents District 8, which represents Braddock, East McKeesport, East Pittsburgh, Monroeville, North Braddock, Norther Versailles, Pitcairn, Plum, Rankin, Swissvale, Trafford, Turtle Creek, Wall and Wilmerding
