Allegheny County Council is moving ahead on data center policy and responding to the DA's call for retirement board resignations.
Council members are pushing back on a demand from District Attorney Stephen Zappala for resignations.
They say Council does not have the legal authority to force retirement board members to resign.
Zappala is criticizing the board over the pension system’s $1.4 billion unfunded liability and what he calls conflicts of interest.
Meanwhile, council’s Sustainability Committee unanimously advanced a measure banning large-scale data centers from being built on county-owned property.
The proposal targets facilities with at least 25 megawatts of capacity and related infrastructure, but would not prevent municipalities from deciding where data centers can be built on private property.
The full 15-member council will now consider the measure.
