Two big items are on the Allegheny County Council agenda tonight, including a vote on paid parental leave.

The proposal would require businesses with at least 15 eligible employees to provide 12 weeks of paid parental leave.

Workers would have to be employed for at least six months or 625 hours to qualify.

The Board of Health approved the revised measure unanimously last week, scaling it back from the original 18-week proposal.

County Council needs eight votes to pass it.

If approved by council and County Executive Sara Innamorato, covered employers would have one year to implement the policy.

County Executive Sara Innamorato is also expected to present her 2027 budget proposal.

The acting county controller’s 2025 annual report says last year’s 36-percent property tax increase brought in $132 million, but only provided temporary relief.

County spending has grown more than $200 million since 2019, with Human Services and the jail accounting for more than half that increase.

The report also warns the pension fund is under pressure, with fewer employees paying into the system than retirees receiving benefits.
