UPDATE: 3 Allegheny County Police say the victim is being identified as a 44-year-old male. They add the family has been notified.
Early information shows multiple other inmates entered the incarcerated individual’s cell and assaulted him. The victim was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
UPDATE 2: According to reports, an inmate was fatally stabbed inside the jail on the 4th floor
UPDATE: Jail spokesperson Jesse Geleynse tells KDKA Radio “I can say that there is an active investigation at the jail following an incident on one of the housing units, and Allegheny County Police have been requested to investigate. The jail is still accepting people at the intake department. More information to follow.”
According to reports, the Allegheny County Jail is currently closed to anyone incoming due to an emergency situation inside the jail.
It is unknown what promoted the closure and what the emergency situation is.
