Inmates at the Allegheny County jail getting new tablets.
In addition to the new tablets, part of a contract with GTL-ViaPath, inmates are now also getting 30 minutes of free phone calls per day. Those calls come without any cost to taxpayers.
The County says the tablets will provide free access to among other things, books, education, and health and wellness programs.
“Because we know that it is important for individuals who are incarcerated to maintain contact with their loved ones, we prioritized affordable communication by significantly reducing fees and incorporating more free minutes per person per day,” Interim Warden Connie Clark said in a release.
