Allegheny County has announced an immediate ban on balloons at any of its nine parks.
“The use of balloons, including helium-filled, latex, or water balloons are prohibited within the Parks,” Allegheny County Parks said in post on social media.
That means use of balloons at shelters or any other park facility for birthday parties, wedding and any other event is prohibited.
County Parks says the decision comes after “frequent litter and debris left from balloons brought into the Parks by visitors.”
They say the garbage threatens park wildlife and “substantial cleanup efforts from maintenance crews and volunteers annually.”
All visitors to County Parks are asked to obey the new rules. It hasn’t been announced if violators will face a fine.
