A beating death inside the Allegheny County Jail is under investigation.
County officials confirm to KDKA Radio that a female corrections officer has been placed on unpaid leave while the investigation continues into the May 13 incident at the Allegheny County Jail.
Investigators say multiple inmates assaulted 44-year-old Tyrone Good, who later died at UPMC Mercy.
Bethany Hallam of the jail oversight board told KDKA Radio's Marty Griffin she has “a lot of questions” following the incident.
“How is it possible that we have a guard who was on that pod, who does not see it happening or know it’s happening?” asked Hallam. “How is it possible that other incarcerated individuals on that pod did not know what was happening?”
Good had been accused in the December killing of his girlfriend, Michelle Sturdivant.
Allegheny County Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
