Police and animal shelters in Western PA are dealing with back-to-back horrific incidents of animal neglect/abuse.
In Belle Vernon, PA State Police say over 60 dogs and two cats were removed from a home on Main Street in Belle Vernon, Fayette County.
Troopers said a search warrant was carried out on Wednesday at the home and they found 62 dogs and the two cats living in horrible conditions.
No charges have been filed yet, but police said that process could take weeks because of the number of animals rescued and the severity of the case.
The investigation started in April when 39 dogs were removed from the home.
Several members from the Anna Shelter in Erie responded taking several hours to triage the animals.
They say the dogs affected range in age from three weeks old to 8-years-old
In Rostraver, first it was concerns about rats.
But now police say when they went to serve a warrant at a Rostraver Township home, they found over 50 pigs there, including some that were inside the home of Wendi Kraemer.
Police chief Richard Beranek spoke to KDKA-TV and said there were even more problems.
He said there was an infestation of flies that was “pretty horrific”.
