Pittsburgh's Headlines: July 2, 2026

Anthrocon is back in Pittsburgh this weekend, bringing thousands of visitors and millions of dollars in economic impact to the region.

Twenty years after choosing Pittsburgh as its home, Anthrocon continues to be one of the city's biggest annual events.

Mayor Corey O'Connor says the convention has grown into something that benefits the entire region.

“Not only are they welcome by our residents but we see the impact in it and the more we can conventions like this and they tell other conventions about why Pittsburgh’s such a great place and a special place, then you starting building your convention base and the more tourism we have, the more it supports our local businesses, our hotels and it’s just a big economic boom for us,” said Mayor O’Connor.

Since arriving in Pittsburgh, Anthrocon has generated nearly $164 million in direct spending across Allegheny County and has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to local charities.
