KDKA Radio Editorial: Are we going to wear masks forever?

On the 31st, all but one of Pennsylvania’s pandemic restrictions come to an end.

As of Memorial Day, restaurants, stores and other businesses can operate at 100% capacity.  Crowd-size limits will be lifted.

PNC Park and PPG Paints Arena can be full of fans again.

But they’ll all be wearing masks. And it will stay that way, for all of us, until 70% of residents 18 and older are fully vaccinated.

Seems like we’ll be wearing masks for a while because demand for COVID vaccines is minimal at this point.  Did you know the number of people in the state getting their first shot is down 93%?
Pennsylvania leads the nation in that statistic.

Of all the mitigation orders, mask-wearing is easily the most hated. But there’s hope that people who have yet to get their shots will decide it’s worth it just to get rid of their masks.

Please do your part to get the state back to normal and be fully vaccinated.
