A person has turned them self in in connection to the death of a bald eagle Friday in Washington County.
The eagle was found dead along Water Dam Road in Mount Pleasant.
“We were able to X-ray that eagle and ascertained it was killed by a single projectile gunshot,” said Sergeant Matt Kramer
The Pennsylvania Game Commission issued a call for help to the community. Their Facebook post shared nearly 1000 times. Kramer said an individual turned themselves in and confessed Monday morning.
“The Pennsylvania Game Commission and its officers are the ones that are hear to speak for the wildlife, in this case the bald eagle,” said Kramer. “We had several officers working on this case, as well as Mount Pleasant Police that worked diligently to see it through the conclusion this morning.”
No word on a motive. Charges are pending.
Although bald eagles are not longer listed as endangered or threatened, they are protected by the Golden Eagle Protection Act and Migratory Bird Protection Treaty Act.
