Police arrested an arson suspect overnight on the South Side.
Officers responding to a burglary in the 900 block of Bingham Street say they saw 35-year-old Jeffery Shelpman attempting to flee.
He was reportedly holding a rock and a lighter.
At the same time, a bed was burning in a vacant apartment.
Shelpman is charged with burglary, trespassing, arson, disorderly conduct, and criminal mischief.
