Local authorities are urging the public to be mindful and vigilant this holiday season regarding fraud schemes.
Whitehall Police issued a fraud alert on their Facebook page this weekend pointing out schemes that criminals use to get consumers information, posing as companies such as Amazon, FedEx, or PayPal online, and requesting the target to call a number to verify a recent purchase.
It is then, authorities say, the criminals will attempt to get sensitive personal information, such as bank account numbers, from the individual.
Whitehall police say a local resident recently fell victim to such a scheme, losing $7,000 to cyber criminals after they unwittingly shared their screen during a phone call.
