An award-winning and popular pizzeria is closing its doors for good.
Grande Jr. Pizza Express, which just won 100.7 Star's Best Pizza in Pittsburgh contest, says there "time here has come to a close."
The business at 596 Race Track Road in Washington, PA told KDKA Radio that "bad business decisions" and other reasons have led to the closure.
In a Facebook post Wednesday, Grande Jr. says the support following the closure announcement has been overwhelming, with crowds in the dining room and phones ringing off the hook.
With the overwhelming demand, a few decisions have been made to keep customers happy until their planned closure on Saturday, March 30.
After so many orders on Tuesday, Grande Jr. had to make some changes so they can handle the influx in business, without disappointing too many people.
1) No delivery after 4pm.
2) Rewards points deactivated.
3) Order limitations. We're only able to do so much with the limited amount of staff we have left, and many of us aren't as young as we once were. So we will be encouraging pre orders and letting you know when slots fill up
4) Online order limitations. Online ordering will be taken offline periodically as the rush becomes too intense, which may become all of Friday and Saturday
5) Limited Motor City Availability. The dough for this pizza is finicky and requires some time to properly mature, so there's not much we can do to provide as many as there is a desire for.
It was the Motor City Pizza that was the overwhelming favorite during the Bubba Show pizza contest.
