After Parkway closure, what's the next big road project?

PennDOT will work on the Bathtub section

Pittsburgh's Headlines: July 28, 2026

With the major part of the Parkway East and Commercial Street Bridge project completed, what is the next big project coming to Pittsburgh.

PennDOT says improvements to The Bathtub section, on I-376 westbound, next to the Monongahela River, is next.

District 11 Executive Jason Zang tells the Big K Morning Show they'll need to add five feet to the flood wall height.

“That’s easier said than done, we have to anchor that down, we have to drive pin piles, there’s a whole aspect to that,” said Zang. “There’s also new gates that are going in to control the water flow.”

Zang adds there is a closure planned for that part of the Parkway next year in 2027.

The exact work and closure dates will be shared in coming months.

Other big projects include a full rehabilitation of the West End Bridge, which is under design right now and another phase to paint the McKees Rocks Bridge.
