Sherwin-Williams to pay fine for air pollution in Beaver Co.

Pittsburgh's headlines

Pittsburgh's Headlines: August 11, 2026

Sherwin-Williams will pay a civil penalty of almost $125,000 for violating the Air Pollution Control Act at its plant in Rochester, Beaver County.

That's part of a consent order with the Department of Environmental Protection after residents complained about chemical odors both outside and inside their homes.

In January, DEP said Sherwin-Williams failed to install a thermal oxidizer, an air pollution control device designed to eliminate harmful volatile organic compounds.

A company spokesperson says the thermal oxidizer is expected to be installed by the end of October.

DEP says Sherwin-Williams will also be fined $1,000 a day per violation if it does not meet deadlines to resolve several other issues.
