AAA expects a record-breaking Thanksgiving travel season. News Radio KDKA's Timira Rush has the details.
At Pittsburgh International, officials are preparing for 300,000 passengers in the new terminal and reminding travelers to give themselves extra time this holiday week.
Wednesday and Sunday are expected to be the busiest travel days, especially during the morning rush between 5 and 7 a.m.
But, the best time to travel on Wednesday is before 11 a.m. Traffic is expected to be light on Thanksgiving Day itself.
After Thanksgiving, the best travel times are before 11 a.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday and before 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Travelers should arrive two hours early for domestic flights, check flight updates, and follow TSA rules.
Extra staff will be on hand to help with parking and the new terminal.
As for travel weather, rain continues Tuesday and Wednesday, but Thanksgiving and Black Friday should be dry, though much colder in Pittsburgh.
Heavy snow is expected in the Twin Cities, possibly causing flight delays, and lake-effect snow is forecast along the Great Lakes, including northwest Pennsylvania.
