Longtime Pittsburgh radio sportscaster Bill DiFabio has died.
He died on Monday of an undisclosed illness.
DiFabio had a long career in radio sports talk including a stint here at KDKA Radio.
He also launched his own Sportscall, which provided sports stories and soundbites to roughly 60 radio stations over five states.
KDKA Radio's Rob Pratte considered DiFabio both a friend and mentor, and likened him to another legend, Howard Cosell.
“I literally put Bill DiFabio in that same category, obviously a smaller scale but he was the voice, in my opinion, when it came to sports in Pittsburgh who was just a guy doing it on his own and he did it good, if not better than anyone else,” said Pratte.
DiFabio was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.
No word yet on funeral arrangements.
