You can already have third party companies deliver things like pizza and groceries to your doorstep. Alcoholic drinks could be the next option.
The State House Liquor Control committee is considering legislation that would allow for third party companies like DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub to make deliveries of alcoholic beverages.
The bill’s Sponsor, Butler County Republican Marci Mustello, says drivers would need a newly created Class D license.
“This license establishes clear expectations for delivery companies and their employees, including mandatory training and responsible alcohol management,” said Mustello.
But State Police Major Robert Bailey says investigating drinks going to minors would be a lengthy process.
“It would likely be several months to a year or so before the matter is adjudicated in a timely manner and a penalty is assessed, not to mention the additional times for appeals,” said Major Bailey.
And that driver could still make deliveries. Alex Mooney of DoorDash says his company trains drivers to watch for signs of intoxication and has invested heavily in ID verification.
