Nurses in Butler County will be picketing at Butler Memorial Hospital Monday for better working conditions.

Organizers call it an “informational picket” where nurses will express their concern about the rising number of violent incidents in hospitals.

The nurses say there's a metal detector at the emergency room, but two other entrances are unguarded.

A nurses union spokesperson says violent incidents in the hospital have increased.

Earlier this month, a nursing assistant's teeth were knocked out.

The picketing precedes upcoming contract talks with Independence Health System, formed from the merger of Excela Health and Butler Health System in 2023.

Picketing outside the hospital is expected to take place during several parts of the day with elected officials expected to join workers at 12:00 p.m. along East Brady Street.
