A teacher at Canon-McMillan High School was arrested Tuesday, charged with having a sexual relationship with a student in a classroom.
48-year-old Justin White of Canonsburg is charged with13 counts of institutional sexual assault and other charges.
White and the student victim reportedly shared thousands of inappropriate messages through text and email and had sexual encounters in White’s classroom, at a field in North Strabane Township and other locations.
North Strabane Police arrested White and was sent to the Washington County Correctional Facility after being unable to post the set bail of $150,000.
White is also the former coach of the Canon-McMillan golf team.
In a letter sent to parents, the district said White has been placed on administrative leave and the student involved has since graduated.
"We take this matter very seriously," the district said, in part. "Throughout this investigation, we have cooperated fully with the police department and have also notified the appropriate authorities in accordance with legal and professional obligations."
