Carlow University in Oakland has issued a crime alert about a recent incident in Frances Warde Hall.
Someone gained access to the dorm floors, and stole credit cards and cash from two separate rooms.
Carlow student Malaya told KDKA's Marty Griffin the building's elevators allow visitors access to the first three floors.
“To go above that, you need to swipe your ID, because those are all the dorm floors but for that elevator, that’s right by ground to get up there, that’s been broken, so you don’t need to swipe to get to any of those living areas,” said Malaya.
The suspect is described as a tall Black man in his late 30s.
He was wearing a gray sweat suit, black Air Jordan sneakers and a white Nike ball cap.
Carlow Police are asking anyone with information to contact them directly at (412) 578-6007.
In response to the security breach, Carlow University officials announced that the bottom door of Francis Ward Hall has been deactivated until further notice.
Campus authorities are urging students to be cautious, avoid letting unfamiliar individuals tail behind them into residence halls, and keep their dorm doors locked at all times.
