PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) "As variants of the COVID-19 virus continue to spread, the Diocese of Pittsburgh is updating safety procedures at Mass and Bishop David Zubik is urging everyone to get vaccinated."
The opening to a release from the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh stated that they are updating their COVID protocol procedures.
Effective immediately these changes are taking place within the Diocese:
- All ministers, ushers, and greeters will wear a mask while engaging in their ministries, regardless of vaccination status.
- Outdoor masses will continue until further notice, after originally planned to end on Sept. 1.
Bishop Zubik stated that the Diocese's "response to the pandemic falls under the commandment 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"
He also went on to urge everyone to follow CDC guidelines about mask wearing and receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
Public officials have assured that there is no shortage of the vaccine and it is available to everyone ages 12 and over.
With the ever changing difficulty and complexity of the pandemic, Bishop Zubik added that policies are set now but are subject to change as the virus does.
