The end is finally near for the abandoned Century III mall.

The first phase of demolition was set to get underway today, but demolition vehicles are still idle.

Once the third-largest mall in the world, the deteriorating shopping center in West Mifflin now sits empty with boarded up windows and graffiti.

Court battles between Moonbeam, who owns the mall and West Mifflin Borough forced a judge to order the two sides to work in good faith and get the building torn down.

That ruling came following several trespassing incidents with the newest happening just a couple of weeks ago when seven people were arrested.

After an asbestos survey on the parking structure, it's believed to be the first thing to come down.

Borough Solicitor Phil DiLucente, tells KDKA Radio Tuesday was officially the first day Neiswonger Construction, could start the demolition process and the borough is disappointed that as of 2 p.m. nothing has happened.
