Cesina's Sausage Co. in Aliquippa unsure of future after devastating fire

Cesina's Sausage Company in Aliquippa was damaged by fire Monday afternoon.

Fire crews were called to the Kennedy Boulevard business a few minutes before 4 p.m.

Owner John Costanza says it was like a gut punch when he saw smoke coming from the building and right now, it doesn’t look good.

“We’re meeting with the adjusters soon and the fire marshals feels that it is, the code enforcer, the city of Aliquippa believes it’s a full demo(lition) and I guess we’ll find out since the insurance company holds the keys in the end. . . but, it looks pretty bad,” Costanza told KDKA Radio’s Marty Griffin.

They first opened at a different location in 1978 and moved their current spot in 1998.

He says he really appreciates the outpouring of support from the community. Costanza adds he's heard from another meat processor in the area who has offered their manufacturing space to Cesina's.

No one was seriously injured in the fire.

Costanza says they don’t know for sure what caused the fire and the investigation is still underway.

He added they have insurance but are not sure if they’ll be able to replace the store or just recover what they lost.
