Last year was the 40th anniversary of the disappearance of an 8-year-old girl in Cabot, Butler County.
Now, the case may be closer to being solved.
8-year-old Cherri Mahan went missing on February 22, 1985.
According to renowned investigator Steve Ridge, a recent tip has led to several interviews that has him optimistic that they are getting much closer to the answers they're looking for because those who care are relentless.
He says the interviews have provided what appears to be very useful information.
“We’ve been running that down ever since through multiple sources and multiple interviews and it seems as though it’s finally coming together,” said Ridge.
While authorities haven't named a suspect or a person of interest, Ridge says they are very optimistic they are definitely on to something substantial.
Mahan disappeared after betting off a school bus that was about 50 feet from her driveway in Winfield Township, Butler County.
Cherrie was declared legally dead in 1998.
