A local convenience store/chicken restaurant in Allegheny County is under Consumer Alert after an inspection on Thursday.
A total of 11 violations were noted in an inspection at Springdale Food Mart/Chester’s Chicken by the Allegheny County Health Department.
Located on the 600 block of Pittsburgh Street in Springdale, two of the violations found are considered high-risk.
Those high-risk violations include several items inside a walk-in cooler found at an unsafe temperature (above 41 degrees).
The items include raw chicken, cheeses, deli meats and pizza sauce temped at 45 degrees.
The store was told to throw the affected items away.
The other high-risk violation is because the store has “no means to properly wash, rinse and sanitize dishes.”
The three-bowl sink “appears to be clogged and does not drain.”
Some medium-risk violations include several items, including opened cheese, cooked hamburgers and hot dogs and more held past the use-by date marking and a lack of a probe thermometer.
The Health Department says in order for the alert to be lifted, the store must repair the walk-in cooler and have a master plumber repair the sink.
The facility also needs a service log for the grease trap and needs a food thermometer.
Until the Consumer Alert is removed, no prepared foods can be sold and can only sell pre-packaged foods.
The facility has 10 days to correct the violations or risk a suspension of its food license.
