New Kensington Police have charged a local woman who they believe caused several injuries to an infant she was caring for at the time.
24-year-old Alexzandrea Derry, is charged with aggravated assault of a victim less than six and endangering the welfare of children following allegations of suspected abuse on the 3-month-old child.
Medical professionals relayed to police the victim suffered seven broken ribs, and facial bruising, and according to medical reports, doctors determined the child's injuries were the result of physical abuse.
Derry was drug tested as a result of the allegations and tested positive for THC and cocaine.
The alleged incident happened in January with the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s office releasing deals on June 8.
