Pittsburgh Public Safety has reopened most of Frick Park and hopes to keep people safe around the collapsed Fern Hollow Bridge.

Since Friday’s collapse of the Forbes Avenue bridge, acting Pittsburgh Public Safety Director Lee Schmidt has watched curious people attempt to get a good view of the scene on the snow and ice covered hillsides.
Now, he and the city hope to keep those more nebby individuals safe.
“A big thing we want to announce today is the creation of this new observation area. For right now, we understand the public wants to come see this site,” Schmidt said.
“Many people have been traversing the hills, putting themselves in danger. We have asked them not to. We’re hoping this is a safe outlet for people to come see this site.”
The observation site will be on the Squirrel Hill side of Forbes Ave and will be accessible from dawn to dusk. It will be patrolled by Pittsburgh police and security.
