Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala shared Wednesday that the search warrant served on the city of Pittsburgh last month from his office was related to funding for programs serving at risk youth in minority communities.

While he didn't offer any additional details, he expressed concerns about no-bid contracts entered into by the city while Ed Gainey was mayor and the use of federal COVID-19 relief funds.

Zappala said his office was working with federal agents but did not elaborate.

Pittsburgh received $335 million dollars in pandemic relief funds.

These comments came two hours after a deputy district attorney argued that the warrant should remain sealed.

An editor from the Post-Gazette went to court in an attempt to have the warrant unsealed.

Judge Jill Rangos agreed with the DA's office and the warrant remains under a 60-day seal.
