KDKA Radio Editorial: Civility Is A Virtue, Especially In A Political Debate

Tuesday night’s vice-presidential debate was a success for what it contained and what it did not. Issues were actually discussed.

Voters heard the candidates’ positions on immigration, the economy, health care, housing, child care and gun policy to name a few. The debate was widely described as civil.

While they clashed on issues, both candidates were cordial and said they could work with each other. Nastiness was replaced by civility.

Both candidates respectfully presented their positions and often agreed with each other.

Sadly, that was a surprise to voters accustomed to name calling, personal attacks and accusations.

The way the candidates conducted themselves left some people wishing it was the running mates who were at the top of the ticket.
