Classes at Ringgold canceled after stabbing at youth football game

A suspect is in custody after a stabbing Sunday afternoon at a youth football game in Washington County and classes are canceled Monday.

It happened at Joe Montana Stadium in Carroll Township during a Class 2A game between the Washington and Ringgold.

First responders were called around 1:30 p.m. A 19-year-old man with a stab wound to the abdomen was airlifted to a Pittsburgh hospital, condition unknown.

The Washington County District Attorney says 17-year-old Daron Carpenter was arrested and is being charged as an adult for the stabbing.

Also, all classes in the Ringgold School District have been canceled today.

“We understand that this decision may cause an inconvenience for some of our families, and we appreciate your patience and flexibility,” Superintendent Randall Skrinjorich said in a message on Ringgold’s website. “After careful consideration, we believe this is the least disruptive and most supportive option for our students and staff at this time.
