Thursday’s mayoral debate on KDKA Radio gave voters in Pittsburgh a clear example of how different the candidates will govern if elected.
While both are Democrats with progressive platforms, their visions for the city are dissimilar.
In his opening statement, incumbent Ed Gainey started by emphasizing affordable housing and he returned to that message repeatedly. Challenger Corey O’Connor called for a change in leadership, saying his focus will be on growth and opportunity.
The debate offers strong evidence that each candidate has different priorities.
We are not endorsing a candidate, but since Democrats hold a large advantage in voter registration, the winner of the May 20th Democratic primary will likely be Pittsburgh’s next mayor.
We urge voters to be well informed ahead of the election.
A good way to do that is listening to the debate we hosted Thursday at KDKA radio.com.
