Coast Guard shuts down nearly 7 miles of Ohio River

The Coast Guard has shut down about seven miles of the Ohio River as the search for a missing barge continues.

It was one of 26 barges that broke loose Friday night.

They heavily damaged a couple of marinas: Peggy’s Harbor and Branchport Boat Club. Later, some struck and went over the Emsworth Dam.

It is presumed the missing barge sunk with its load of coal and won't be easy to locate.

The area of the river shut down is between the Emsworth and Dashields locks and dams.

It remains unclear how the barges owned by Campbell Transportation broke free.
