With little to no relief from the heat, Allegheny County is extending its Code Red Heat Advisory through Friday.
That means cooling centers around the county will remain open with extended hours.
You can find the list of cooling centers here.
The county adds Senior Centers welcome people of all ages while they are acting as cooling centers.
Also, the Second Avenue Commons shelter will be open overnight night Tuesday and Wednesday.
The county provided these safety tips to follow while the dangerous temperatures last:
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Avoid alcohol and caffeinated beverages.
Limit outdoor activity, especially between 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas if you must be outside.
Use air conditioning or spend time in public spaces such as libraries, malls, or community centers if your home is not air-conditioned.
Keep phones and other devices charged in case of power outages due to heat-related strain on the power grid.
Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle, even for a short period of time. Temperatures inside cars can rise rapidly and become deadly.
Check on vulnerable individuals, including older adults, young children, and those with chronic health conditions.
Follow medical advice if you have asthma, COPD, or other respiratory conditions. Reduce prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors.
