A winter weather event gets underway this evening.
KDKA-TV Chief meteorologist Ray Petelin tells the Big K Morning Show snow will star to fall north of the city around 9 p.m.
“Getting into Pittsburgh around 10, 11 tonight,” said Petelin. “It is going to be a burst of snow, it’s going to lay down kind of quick and this is going to last till about 2, 3 a.m.
Following that quick burst of snow, he says we'll start seeing some lake effect snow showers and that will continue into the morning commute Thursday.
He says the northern communities are going to see some prolonged snow from this storm, starting with northern Butler County, where there is a Winter Storm Advisory.
North of I-80, there is a Lake Effect Snow Warning.
The National Weather Service is forecasting an inch or two of snow to fall through early Saturday morning in the Pittsburgh area.
And, it will be cold with wind guests overnight into Thursday up to 40 mph.
We won’t be comfortably above freezing until Sunday, with high temperatures not making it out of the 20s Thursday.
