Community members will rally outside UPMC Headquarters in downtown on Sunday for a call to action demanding the continuation of affirming care for trans youth.
This action comes just one day before families are expected to receive formal notice that these vital services will be cut.
UPMC is reportedly ending affirming care services for trans youth under 19, including therapy, puberty blockers, and related supports placing already vulnerable young people at even greater risk.
A statement released from the executive director of Trans YOUniting it states in part “Stripping affirming care from trans youth is a direct attack on our survival. We’re calling on UPMC to reverse this harmful decision before more lives are put at risk.”
Speakers will include local and state leaders, families, and individuals directly impacted by this decision.
