It's not new but it's new to Pittsburgh.
“Citizen”, the controversial public safety app, is set to launch in Western Pennsylvania on June 20.
The app serves as a hub for police activity, severe weather and traffic accidents.
You can steam live video and report incidents as they happen.
Beth Pittinger, the executive director of Pittsburgh's Citizen Police Review Board is not a fan.
“It has the potential to be very dangerous, in terms of obstructing police investigations, interfering with police and citizen activity,” said Pittinger.
The main concern is that people believe it promotes vigilantism as well as compromising privacy.
Variations of the app have been around for nearly a decade and there have been numerous issues.
Pittinger adds the current climate of hate and exploitation creates the potential for some serious problems including interfering with the professionals that are trained to help those in need.
