Update: The victim in Thursday’s fatal accident has been identified as 70-year-old John Volante by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The mayor of Coraopolis is calling for an immediate review after the community's second fatal pedestrian accident this month.
Within hours of the accident involving a tractor trailer and a pedestrian at Fifth and Main on Thursday, Coraopolis Mayor Michael Dixon posted on Facebook he wants an immediate review of the circumstances of what happened as well as the fatal hit and run on August 3 that killed 61-year-old Ulises Montalvo.
Dixon says they're evaluating high-risk intersections, lighting, speed enforcement and pedestrian safety.
Dixon is calling on drivers to slow down and stay alert, and for pedestrians to use crosswalks and remain aware.
He adds, in his words, together with compassion and resolve, we can and must make our streets safer for everyone.
