O’Connor, a Democrat, will challenge incumbent Ed Gainey in the 2025 primary.

Speaking at Hazelwood Green on Tuesday morning, the son of former Mayor Bob O’Connor, Corey spoke about being a life-long Pittsburgher and touted his accomplishments as county controller.

Minutes into his news conference, O’Connor took aim at Gainey and his administration.

“There is no vision coming off of Grant Street anymore,” said O’Connor. “When I look around, I see a mayor and an administration managing decline instead of trying to grow Pittsburgh.”

O’Connor believes that the Gainey Administration is leading Pittsburgh into an era of decline “sleepwalking toward another financial disaster.”

O’Connor also expressed his frustration over issues like crime, homelessness and more.
