Corey O'Connor sworn-in as Pittsburgh's 62nd mayor

Corey O’Connor is now officially the Mayor of Pittsburgh.

The son of former Mayor Bob O’Connor became the 62nd mayor in the city’s history during a swearing-in ceremony at Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland.

District Judge James J. Hanley administered the oath of office just after 2 p.m.  as O’Connor’s family and local officials watched.

O’Connor said in a 15-minute-long speech that his family motivated him to run for office and now it's time to change Pittsburgh’s culture.

“It’s time to become a city of hope and optimism where your dreams can come true,” said O’Connor. “A Pittsburgh where each and every time we can, we get to ‘yes’.”

Pittsburgh’s most recent former mayors: Ed Gainey, Bill Peduto, Luke Ravenstahl and Tom Murphy were also on hand to witness the transfer of power.

He thanked outgoing Mayor Gainey, his predecessor, for leaving a “very emotional” note behind for him.
