In a 12-3 vote last night, Allegheny County Council overrode Rich Fitzgerald's veto of legislation banning fracking in county parks.

Dave Callahan of the Marcellus Shale Coalition says that there is a lot of confusion surrounding the natural gas industry locally and it's perpetuated by things like last night's vote.
Callahan tells the KDKA Radio Morning Show it's not choice between economic development and environmental safety.
“We are able to achieve, and we are achieving both, thanks to safe, responsible development of natural gas resources.”
Callahan adds it's already being done. At Deer Lakes Park, fracking is happening a mile under the park's service with the well pad at least a half mile away.
Fitzgerald vetoed the bill, saying gas leasing right should be done on a case-by-case basis.
