Crafton the latest community hit by vehicle thefts

Crafton Borough Police are warning residents after several vehicle thefts.

Crafton is the latest neighborhood to be targeted and Police want people to be on alert in the wake of the latest vehicle thefts where three incidents have happened over the last week on Hawthorne Avenue and West Steuben Street.

Chief Richard Ford says car thieves look for the easiest ways to strike.

“You have an anti-theft device or your doors are locked, typically you’re not going to run into any problems but . . . the most recent ones we’ve seen has been because people have either left the doors open or actually left the keys in the car,” said Chief Ford.

Ford says to remember to always lock your doors and never leave spare keys, valuables, guns or electronics in your car.

Chief Ford says Hyundai and Kia owners are being targeted more than others.

Those vehicles are targeted because of security immobilizers that are lacking or easy to bypass.

Stronger anti-theft technology is now available for newer models of Hyundai and Kia but older models are still targets for thieves.
