Dozens of cremated remains have been sitting in the Westmoreland County Coroner's office unclaimed, but that’s changing.

Coroner Tim Carson says sometimes they can't find family of the deceased, or the family isn't willing to take on the financial strain of a funeral and burial.
When Carson took office earlier this year, he says he found unclaimed ashes of 57 people, including 15 military veterans.
Now, he's giving them a final resting place.
“I just thought it was definitely important that we come up with some kind of a plan.”
The 42 civilians will have a burial service later this fall. This summer, the veterans be buried in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Washington County.
“They will be given a full, military funeral including a 21-gun salute, the whole nine yards. That will be their final resting place,” Carson said.
