Founder of Barstool Sports David Portnoy was in the Pittsburgh area Tuesday to make an appearance on the Plan Bri podcast at Stage AE.
While in town, Portnoy stopped by several local pizza shops as part of his famous One Bite Pizza Reviews.
“One bite…you know the rules.”
We’ve learned of at least six shops he visited, including A Slice of New York Pizza in Murrysville.
Owner Sean told KDKA Radio sister station 100.7 Star on Wednesday morning that when they found out Portnoy was visiting the area, they started pushing to get him to visit.
“We didn’t really know he was coming until they called to place the order and that was about 15 minutes before he showed up,” said Sean.
Sean says they were the first stop on Portnoy’s Pittsburgh pizza journey.
While he didn’t share the score, that will come out in the next week or so, Sean said they got a good one.
“When I handled him the pizza though, ‘I said I really hope you like it’ and he said, ‘If I come back in, that means I like it’ and about four minutes later, he came back in,” said Sean.
We know Portnoy also visited Rockaway Pizzeria in White Oak (moving to Regent Square in the next few months), Pizzeria Davide in the Strip District, Pizza Lupo in Lawrenceville Ianni’s Pizzeria in Delmont and Iron Born. There could be one or two more.
Portnoy was in Pittsburgh back in 2020 and did a series of pizza shops then, including classic pizza shops like Juliano’s in Robinson Township, Fiori’s Mineo’s and Aiello’s.
From past experiences, whenever Portnoy visits a pizza place, getting a pie becomes hard to come by so, if you want a slice, you might want to order from one of these places now...before the review comes out.
Sean says this latest trip was more of the new age pizza shops that have opened in the Pittsburgh area.
