Deep freeze grips Pittsburgh after weekend snowstorm

The snow has come and gone, but the frigid cold weather is sticking around for a few more days.

Tens of thousands of people are headed to Acrisure Stadium tonight for a frigid Steelers/Dolphins game.

Fans are going to be outside for hours and hours tonight for Monday Night Football. David Schallenberger, meteorologist with the National Weather Service recommends they dress in layers.

“You’re probably going to be seeing temperatures around 17-16 degrees for kickoff and then by the end of the game, you’re already down into the mid-teens and during that time, you’re going to have wind chills, at times, into the single digits,” said Schallenberger.

He says it doesn't take much wind in conditions like this to knock that feel-like temperature way below what the actual temperature is.

Pittsburgh CitiParks is activating five Healthy Active Living Centers as warming centers today from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The locations are in Beechview, Greenfield, Homewood, Sheraden and the South Side.

The number of power outages has dropped from 6,400 to 1,900 outages. West Penn Power has 630 customers off line now in the Mars area east of Route 228. And there are scattered outages in Treesdale and Valencia, where the utility estimated service will be restored by 11:30 a.m.

Most places around Pittsburgh ended up with around six inches of snow, with more in elevated areas after snow came through over the weekend.

But, there is relief, by Thursday, temperatures could be in the low 50 before falling again on Friday.
