A deer is wandering the North Hills with, what appears to be a plastic container on its head.
Bill Sawyer tells The Big K Morning Show the doe has been wandering around the area for over two weeks.
Sawyer says he first saw the deer on a game surveillance camera on February 22.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission tells Sawyer the deer was likely going after the salt inside the snack container.
Sawyer, along with the Game Warden nearly caught it on Sunday but came up short.
“It literally ran right past him and we could not believe, after three weeks with no food, how fast that thing moved,” said Sawyer.
Tranquilizing the deer is an option, but as the Game Commission told Sawyer, when hit, the deer will take off for up to a half mile before the tranquilizer kicks in. If they don’t find the deer in time, it could die.
Neighbors in the area of Mt. Nebo Road have been helping to try and find the deer.
Sawyer says he thought about shooting the deer to put it out of its misery, but couldn’t get permission and after seeing how fast it ran, knows it still has life left.
“As long as it’s moving like that it’s, somehow, getting water, it’s definitely not getting food,” the Game Commission told Sawyer.
The Game Commission will continue to try and rescue the deer.
