Parkway East drivers, those lane restrictions that have led to extended delays for eastbound drivers will continue and include a new factor.
In addition to the new timelines, with the project scheduled to last for a few more weeks, you won't be able to get onto the eastbound Parkway from the Beechwood Boulevard between 5 am and 2 pm.
Here is the posted detour:
The ramp closure will occur in conjunction with the single-lane restriction currently in place on eastbound I-376 between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) interchange. Traffic will be detoured.
From Beechwood Boulevard turn onto Forward Avenue
Turn left onto Murray AvenueTurn right onto Wilkins Avenue
Turn left onto S. Dallas Avenue
Turn right onto Route 8 (Penn Avenue)
Bear right onto Route 8 (Ardmore Boulevard)
Take the ramp to I-376/Pittsburgh/Monroeville
Stay right onto the ramp to eastbound I-376
PennDOT's John Myler says this should actually help things out.
“The goal of that is that’s going to eliminate some of the weaving patterns that we’re seeing down in that tight area, between the on-ramp, the exit and the merging traffic to go through the tunnel,” said Myler.
The work will continue into next week and each time the single lane restrictions are in effect, that ramp will also close.
But, why are they doing it during the day?
Myler says the type of work they are doing is so noisy, that nearby residents complained it was keeping them up at night.
